On Thursday 27 June, our CEO Amilcar Perea took part in the panel on #Fintech and Online Banking for financial inclusion at the “Montevideo Fintech Forum”. Other guest speakers Florencia Lopez (Asesoría Macroeconómica & Financiera), Alberto Mello (Deputy CEO de HBSC Uruguay), Jorge Xavier (Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Administración) and Juan Fernández (Consejo Central AEBU). The moderator of the panel was Fabián Tiscornia (Editor Economía & Negocios Editor of El País).
Our CEO explained that, in the recent years, the nature of the relationship between banking and Fintechs evolved to a “cooperative” and “complementing” one. Fintechs are “an additional instrument” adding “technology” and “experience”, he stated.
In relation to the decrease in the use of cash, he assessed: beyond the development that already exists and that should continue progressing, “we cannot think of a cash blackout”.
About Social Financial Inclusion and the construction of an inclusive and interoperable digital ecosystem, he explained that: the “future” looks “fantastic” with the opportunity to “use the technology for the good, with more freedom, strengthening rights and protecting the people’s data”.
